I am more an excited to announce that I’ve been carefully chosen picked out of a hat, to be a member of the 2014 Ginger Panel to judge Movita Beaucoup’s Ginger, A Sweet Smackdown. This IS the most exciting opportunity of my blogging career.
When I was invited, it was because it seemed that I had almost-good taste. How cool is that??
In the past the competition was voted on by the masses on the interwebs but those entrants with huge social media and blog following always won, so Rachel (She’s Movita) moved to a Ginger Panel so that everyone could be treated with the same unfairness.
There will still be People’s Choice by online voting (people shouldn’t be punished for being popular) but Places One and Two will be based on these criteria:
Skill level (or lack thereof)
Techniques (achieved or attempted)
Stuff they used to make it with
Overall appearance
Use of a theme (if any)
Clever stories submitted along with the gingerbread house photos
If those criteria are too difficult for me, I can simply choose what I think is the most squeal-worthy. Once the panel votes are in, Movita will use a complicated graphing system, extrapolation and long division to come up with the final winners. It’s all very technical.
If YOU would like to submit a craptastic gingerbread house, there’s still time! The deadline for submission isn’t until December 15th. The photo above is not craptastic, it’s eff’n brilliant. I could not create one of these.
Here are the rules:
First, create a gingerbread house. It needs to look like a building. Anything else, is extra. Don’t email Movita about what’s acceptable because she’ll be rude. Just make a gingerbread house.
Take a photo or two.
Make sure it’s your own photo. She has ways of finding out if you’ve pinched it off the net.
When you send the photo, leave your name and details about your creative process. If you’re a blogger, tell her what your blog address is. She won’t waste time guessing who you are.
You’ll see your gingerbread house on MovitaBeaucoup.com and then you’ll wait for the masses to vote for you. It’s okay to promote your house.
If you win, you get worldwide recognition and a prize!
Oh, by the way, if you don’t follow Movita Beaucoup, you’re doing this internet thing wrong. Movita, 2.0, Rosie Beaucoup, Adamop and the rest of the clan are all my friends. Sort of. In a funny way.

This probably isn’t the best time to tell you that you’re going to have to make some of the MOST DIFFICULT DECISIONS OF YOUR LIFE NEXT WEEK. This year’s entries are absolutely charming, and I’m hoping a few more will hit my inbox before Monday. This is, of course, why I passed the job on to suckers like you. Snort!!

I’m up for the challenge!

How exciting Maureen! I hope you don’t lose any sleep over tough decisions 🙂 littlej makes a gingerbread house every year, but we have had some troubles with humidity causing catastrophic structural failures! The good news is it still tastes good, even if it’s not a work of art like the competition entries x
