Food Stories Nominee

May 24, 2012 by Maureen 43 Comments

I’ve never been big on awards.  Okay, truthfully, I haven’t been big on awards because I never got many.  🙂  This week though, I got nominated by Minnie from The Lady 8 Home who said the kindest things about me that I’ve ever heard from someone who didn’t want in my pants.

Minnie’s blog is only 3 weeks old.  Seriously 3 weeks.  She must have been working non-stop the whole time to get it all together for CJ from foodstoriesblog.com to have noticed her.  I think Minnie is going to do really well with her blog.

The nomination comes with one requirement – we must share one quirky fact about ourselves.  You folks know most everything about me I’m sure but maybe there’s one thing you don’t know.  I farted.  Yes, I know, women don’t do that.  Ever.

However, when I was eight, it happened.  Not only did it happen but loudly and proudly and in front of the parish priest and the whole famdamly gathered in the hallway to say goodbye to the friendly father.

I had won the good conduct medal that week at Mount Merici Academy and I’d been on a roll cashing in on how good I had been to get the award.  The truth is, I knew I was going to get it because I went out of my way to brownnose the nuns but I didn’t tell my mother that.  Even the priest knew I’d won and earlier he’d patted me on the head and did the “I hope you stay this good, I won’t forget you.”

Then it happened.

It was like 10 eyeballs all looking at me.  Okay it was 10 eyeballs looking straight at me.  I was mortified and wanted to melt into the floorboards but they wouldn’t give.

I did what any 8-year old girl would do.

“It wasn’t ME!”

They laughed.

I wanted to die.  Then they’d be sorry.

Fortunately I didn’t die or I wouldn’t be here with you now but has anyone in my family forgotten?  At EVERY family gathering one son of a bitch has to say, “Hey, Maureen, farted for the priest lately?”

Now that that’s out of the way and we’re much closer friends, here are my nominees for the Excellence in Storytelling award.  Now I know they have probably all been nominated before but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t let them know how much I love their writing.

More Thyme Than Dough

Roberta tells a story in every blog post she writes on More Thyme than Dough.  Her posts are well researched, documented and written with real emotion and passion about the topic.  She writes about food memories, healthy eating, inspirational people and much much more.  I wouldn’t miss one of her posts.

Hotly Spiced

What’s not to say about Charlie Louie from Hotly Spiced.  Her blog name is well chosen because she is such a hottie – inside and out.  I love her writing and her recipes cause me to salivate like Pavlov’s dog.  Hotly Spiced is definitely excellence in storytelling.  After a few posts you feel like a part of her family.  Book editors are nuts not to give her a contract.  I’d buy her book.

Sippity Sup

I love Greg to bits.  I fell in love with his writing first on Sippity Sup and then his food. Oh, and I love his kitchen too.  Remember the story about the dog poo and whose dog did it and how he stalked the neighborhood to find the culprit?  I laugh about that every time I think about it.  Can’t wait for his new cookbook to go on the shelves.

Lambs Ears and Honey

Amanda write a blog that I hate to miss.  Not only does she tell good stories on Lambs Ears and Honey, she’s always got great photos of wherever she is – and then there’s her food.  Oh the food.  🙂 She’s been on holidays recently and it’s almost like being there.  (okay I’d rather be there myself)

Parsley, Sage, Desserts, etc.

Tthere’s not one food blogger who creates so much anticipation of her posts more than Lisa does with her story chapters.  Her stories about true love and food are just remarkable and we can all put ourselves into that young girl’s life.  Lisa’s a terrific woman and I never want her story to end.  I can see us in 5 years with Part 412 on Parsley, Sage, Desserts, etc.

Head over to CJ’s Food Stories Blog and follow the guidelines to complete the nomination.  You’re all winners in my eyes!
